West Bengal government to felicitate Muhammad Yunus
Kolkata, Oct 16 (UNI) The West Bengal government will accord a civic reception to Nobel Peace laureate Muhammed Yunus here very soon in recognition of his great achievement.
Announcing the state cabinet's unanimous decision to this effect, Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta told newspersons here today that Dr Yunus, already contacted by his department, had consented to come to the city to be present at the reception and accept the felicitation.
''We are also trying to invite another Nobel laureate (in Economics) Dr Amartya Sen for the ocassion,'' Dr Dasgupta said.
However, the exact date and venue of the reception would be decided in consultation with Dr Yunus, the minister said.
Dr Yunus, who shared this year's Nobel Peace prize with the Grameen Bank founded by him in Bangladesh, would receive the world's highest award at Stockholm on November 10.
The civic reception here would be organised after he receives the award and meets other pressing engagements both in Stockholm and back in Bangladesh, Dr Dasgupta said.
