Six weeks to Centre to explain on turban ban in French schools
Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today gave six weeks time more to the Union government for filing a reply to the writ petition which raised the issue of restrictions on wearing of turbans by Sikh students in schools in France.
The case is being heard in the court of division bench of acting Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice S S Saron.
A PIL in this respect has been filed by Singh Legal Foundation, Chandigarh, through its chairman Dr M S Rahi, seeking directions to the Centre to protect the fundamental rights of its citizens, that is, the Sikhs in India and abroad as it was the fundamental responsibility of the respondents to do so in terms of the Constitution.
The matter would now come up on December 5, 2006.
