Income tax official arrested in Mumbai on graft charges

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The CBI today arrested an income tax official for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 in Mumbai.

A CBI statement said the department's senior Tax Assistant Anil Kumar was arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe from a partner of private firm.

He had demanded the bribe for not sending the income tax return papers of the company to his senior for further scrutiny and assessment, the statement said.

The CBI registered a case on the basis of a written complaint from the private company. Further investigations are in progress.
