Go for Lavinder cultivation: State
Srinagar, Oct 16: Jammu and Kashmir government is lanching a drive to motivate the farmers to go for Lavinder (perfume) oil cultivation which is in great demand in the International market.
The Minister for tourism launched a plantation drive of Lavinder Rose at Kolahai Park, which is now being developed as a Lavinder Park.
An official spokesman said here today that Lavinder is perennial aromatic plant which yields costly scent (perfume) and the objective of developing Lavinder Park is to enhance aesthetic ambience of the area.
There is a tremendous demand of Lavinder (perfume) oil in the international market where its one litre costs is Rs 4500 on an average.
The Lavinder Park would also act as a demonstration plot for the local populace to motivate them for Lavinder cultivation as a beneficial cash crop.
The Minister also laid foundation of two new shelters cum viewing Decks in the Kalahai park alongside the banks of River Lidder.
He said that the proposed Lavinder Park would provide flower cover in the Pahalgam for at least 9 months in a year.
He said effort will made be to stop construction in the entire Pahalgam and its exteriors to make cultivation of flowers a dominating features in the Pahalgam.
He said, besides, Lavinders, Mint garden and creranuim flower garden would also be developed in the vicinity of Pahalgam.
