McDonald's launches 'Each One Contribute One' prog
New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Leading food service retailer McDonald's has launched the 'Each One Contribute One' programme across all its 57 restaurants in North India for the visually and economically challenged.
Under the programme, Re 1 will be contributed on the sales of all meals sold from October 13 to November 20, 2006 towards the corrective eye surgeries of the visually and economically challenged children.
''Since 75 per cent of world's blind population ails from avoidable blindness and 19 per cent of the global total comprises of Indian children, such startling facts compelled us to do something to address the problem at large,'' Vikram Bakshi, Joint Venture Partner and Managing Director, McDonald's India (Northern Region) said.
Mr Bakshi added that to achieve this mammoth task, we have partnered with prominent sight saving NGO Orbis International and Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH).
Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Choudhury graced the occasion as the first donor.
