Hemp spread over 150 hectares destroyed in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 15 (UNI) As part of its drive against cultivation of Bhang (hemp) in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government has destroyed the crop spread over about 3000 kanals (150 hectares) of land in twin districts of Anantnag and Pulwama, an official spokesman said today.
He said State Excise Department officials have so far destroyed 'Bhang' which could yield several hundred kg of 'charas' (narcotics) valuing crores of rupees in both local and international market.
The areas in the twin districts where Bhang was destroyed include Tulkhan, Melhore, Kolpora, Achan, Grawgung, Khilan, Hassanpora, Tikibal, Kawini, Wachi, Dopatyar, Simthan, Loktipora and Frisal.
The government has once again appealed to Bhang cultivators to destroy the crop themselves failing which it will take necessary action against them, the spokesman said.
