RSS seeks 'direct action' against Pakistan

Varanasi, Oct 14: Accusing the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of being soft on terrorism, the RSS today demanded ''direct action'' against Pakistan and the revival of POTA to crush the growing terror acts in the country.

Interacting with newspersons on the sidelines of the three-day RSS national executive here this evening, executive member and former spokesperson Ram Madhav informed that a resolution condemning the UPA government's failure to tackle terror was passed on the penultimate day of the meet here.

''The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) deplores the wooly and vacillating attitude of the Centre towards the growing menace of terrorism and demands that the politics of appeasement be abandoned and immediate steps taken towards bolstering national security without any further delay,'' the resolution stated.

Mr Madhav further said a time has come to take ''direct action'' against Pakistan to curb terrorism from the root, instead of pursuing the policy of providing concrete evidence to Pakistan for initiating action against ultras hiding across the LoC.

''The RSS also demands the revival of the anti-terrorism law POTA to take stringent action against the terrorists as the inability of the present laws in dealing effectively with the menace has emboldened the ultras to wreak havoc in the country,'' he added.

The Sangh also deplored the UPA government on the recent Havana Declaration that envisaged putting in place an Indo-Pak joint mechanism to deal with cross-border terrorism.

''The ABKM deeply resents the naive utterances of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declaring Pakistan as a victim of terrorism and there is no alternative to dailogue in his Havana address,'' the resolution said.

''It is a glowing example of the Centre softening on countering terrorism,'' Mr Madhav maintained.

The Sangh functionary further targeted 'madarasas' operating in the country for being the breeding grounds of home grown terrorism and demanded that their activities be regulated.

Further, Mr Madhav alleged that the irresponsible attitude of government in dealing with national security was also underscored by the growing tentacles of maoism in the country. ''The Sangh has factual evidence of 150 districts of the country being in the grip of maoism,'' Mr Madhav said, adding, that those sympathising with naxal extremists and terrorists should be dealt as ''traitors.''
