Punjab govt to admit below 14-years domestic helps in schools
Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) The Punjab government has launched a special campaign to admit those children in educational institutions who were working as domestic help or in the hospitality sectors in the state.
Disclosing this here today, Secretary Labour and Employment S S Channy said the government would ensure strict compliance of implementation of the notification the Union Government prohibiting employment of children below the age of 14 years in homes, hotels, motels, restaurants, tea shops, road side cafeterias etc.
He said these children would be admitted in the schools under Sarv Siksha Abhian (SSA) so that they avail facilities of free education, text books and mid-day meals. Such children could also be admitted in special schools under the National Child Labour Projects (NCLP), he added.
Each child under NCLP is given monthly stipend of Rs 100 besides middday meals. These schools were being run successfully by NGOs at Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar.
Orphans and destitute children would be admitted to the shelter homes run by Social Security, Women and Child Development Department.
