Hoshiarpur, Oct 14 (UNI) To check cross border crime and infiltration the Border Security Force (BSF) is taking effective steps to patrol the 553 km long Punjab border during night and day.

''The border has to be manually patrolled as fencing alone could not halt cross border crime, as infiltrators had become well trained in crossing the barbed wire fencing'', BSF Inspector General (Punjab Frontier) Arvind Rajan said while talking to mediapersons at BSF Subsidiary Training Centre (STC), Kharkan, 12 Km from here today.

In this context he referred to a recent infiltration attempt which the BSF had foiled along the border. One of the infiltrators, who was identified as Kasim Ali of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan was killed by the BSF during this attempt.

Mr Rajan announced that a one-day vertical interaction course for the BSF officers of all the four sectors of Punjab Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur and Abohar would be held on October 16, at Kharkan. During this course improved methods of patrolling the border would be discussed, he added.

Earlier, in an impressive passing outparade, the IG took the salute from 432 newly passed out recruits.

Mr Alok Sinha, Additional DIG, STC, Kharkan, while giving a brief about the centre, said that 18,590 recruits had passed out from this centre till date.
