Suzlon secures Latin America 225 MW's 1st order
Pune, Oct 13: Suzlon Energy A/S of Denmark (SEAS), the international business arm of Suzlon Energy Limited - broke new ground with its first order in South America. The major order from Brazilian energy company, SIIF Energies do Brasil Ltda (SIIF), marks Suzlon's entry into another key high-growth market for wind energy.
SIIF, owned by the Spain-based Jantus Ltd, has spent over five years developing a portfolio of projects in the highly attractive wind area of the North East of Brazil. The company is an active player on the renewable energy stage with projects underway and under development in bio-mass and in carbon trading, in addition to wind, a press note stated.
Chairman&Managing Director - Suzlon Energy LimitedTulsi R Tanti said, "We are extremely pleased to enter into this agreement with SIIF Energies do Brasil," , "This order marks our entry into a key international market where we did not yet have a presence. We are now present in all key wind energy geographies." The 225 MW order, comprising 107 units of the Suzlon S88 - 2.1 MW turbine for installations in six projects, is poised to double Brazil's current installed capacity of 200 MW. Deliveries are set to commence in Q1 2007-08, with the full order being installed and commissioned over a period of 18 months.

Latin America as a whole, and Brazil in particular, are key markets for the wind energy industry in the coming years, and I am confident that our new relationship with SIIF will be mutually rewarding, and that this marks the beginning of a growing Suzlon presence on the continent." Brazil is one of the leading nations in the Americas in the field of renewable energy. The rapid growth of the country's economy is a key driver for the growth of the renewable energy industry in the Brazil. With the country's increasing energy needs, wind and other renewable energy sources are poised to play a key role in powering the economic future of the country. Brazil has a rapidly expanding renewable energy sector, with industry studies projecting an installation of 1,200 MW in the next five years, the press note stated.
