Security officials receive training on cyber crime against children

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) In order to upgrade security forces to tackle cyber crimes against children, 28 officials of the CBI, State and Central Police organisations participated in a four-day training programme at the CBI Academy.

The training programme, which concluded today was organised by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) in collaboration with Microsoft, and attended by Inspectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Superintendents of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and a NASCOM representative.

During the training, experts demonstrated techniques and tools to counter online crimes against children which included Malicious Software, Phishing, Botnet Attacks and Log Analysis.

Besides this trainees were also acquainted with methods used by predators to look for child victims through newspapers, chat rooms, e-mails and global sharing of abusive images and videos of children through the internet.

''The course is important as with the increased use of internet, the scope for child abuse has also grown'', said the CBI here.

Also, it has become increasingly important for computer users, policy makers and others to understand the risks that children could encounter online and the challenges law enforcement authorities face in countries worldwide on the issue.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report 2004, 350 crimes were reported during the year under the Information Technology Act, 2002, while adding that the number could be understated as most victims shy away from reporting such crimes or even take the help of private investigators, especially where the crimes are directed against children.
