Rosaiah calls for efforts to contain dengue, C'gunya
Vijayawada, Oct 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Health Minister K Rosaiah today appealed to various government departments, medical fraternity and voluntary organisations to work in coordination with the medical and health departments for taking preventive measures to curb dengue and chikungunya fevers rising alarmingly in the state.
Addressing an awareness meeting on diseases caused by mosquitos here, the minister said many were suffering with these diseases due to the change of weather.
Mr Rosaiah said chikungunya first broke out in the northern states of Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Maharashtra and spread to the southern states.
But dengue broke out first in Kerala and spread to the northern states, he said.
He said if the funds for implementing preventive measures were not sufficient, permission was given to district collectors to additional amount under t.R.27.
The state government has set up a high-level task force for curbing the diseases.
District collectors, medical and health officers and voluntary organisations of West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts attended the meeting.
