Punjab to rehabilitate sacked child labourers: CM
Jalandhar, Oct 13 (UNI) The Punjab Government would soon announce a rehabilitation plan for children who were losing jobs following the enforcement of a ban on child labour, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said.
The State Government would strictly implement the Central Act which banned the child labour as it was inhuman to engage children as labourers instead of providing proper development and education, Capt Singh told reporters here.
He said the State's Department of Women and Child Welfare is working out a scheme for rehabilitation and education of these sacked children, who have no other earning family members. The scheme would be announced in next few days, he said.
He was talking to the media while inaugurating the 'Suvidha Centre' complex in the District Collectorate premises and later inaugurated the building of 'Virsa Vihar Kendra'(heritage center) here.
Ministers Ch Jagjit Singh, Avtar Henry, Ms Gurkanwal Kaur, sitting MP Rana Gurjit Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Later, the Chief Minister participated in the closing ceremony of the 55th All India Police Games at the PAP premises and gave away prizes to the winners.
