Mulayam Singh urges socialists to unite for social justice

Hardwar, Oct 13 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today urged all socialists of the country to come on one platform to achieve the goals of social justice and prosperity.

Mr Yadav, who reached here today to participate in a two-day national executive meet of the Samajwadi Party, beginning tomorrow, said emergence of the third force was the need of the hour to fight a new battle for the cause of the farmers and the labourers.

He exhorted all those who believe in the ideology of socialism, including the left parties to join hands.

''Since Samajwadi Party (SP) was the biggest socialist party of the country, it would be in the interest of all that it formed the nucleus of the union of all the socialists.'' Asked about former Defence Minister George Fernandes joining the SP, the UP Chief Minister said he was welcome provided he first resigns from JD (U) and convenership of the NDA.

Replying to a question about filing of a case by the CBI against Mr Fernandes in a defence deal kickbacks case, he said he had not yet seen the details of the case.

''However, the government should make public details of the case so that people may know the truth of the matter,'' he said.

Talking about formation of third front against the Congress and the BJP for the next assembly elections in four states, including U P and Uttaranchal, the Chief Minister said the existing alliance of SP with its allies would continue but options of new political alignments were always open.
