Man dies police custody, Rs 2 lakh compensation announced
Bhadaur, Sangrur, Oct 13 (UNI) One Rubin Masih allegedly died in police custody in Bhadaur last night after he was picked up by the police following a clash between two groups and police firing here on October 11.
The Sangrur district administration today announced a compensation of Rs two lakh to the family of the deceased.
The police handed over the body of the deceased to the bereaved family.
The residents agitated over the death of Rubin Masih came on the streets today, while the police had denied that he died in custody.
SSP Barnala police district S K Asthana told UNI that Masih succumbed to injuries in a private hospital which he sustained during the clash.
''He was taken to the hospital along with two other seriously injured policemen and the post mortem report says he died of injuries in the chest,'' the SSP said.
As many as 24 people including a Naib Tehsildar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and six other polic personnel were injured in the clash between two groups of villagers and firing by police personnel at Bhadaur village on Wedneday last.
