Kolkata to host second international theatre estival for oppressed
Kolkata, Oct 13 (UNI) Noted social activist Medha Patekar will inaugurate "Muktadhara II", the second international theatre festival for the oppressed, here on October 17 with more than 15 theatre groups from as many countries participating.
Being organised under the banner of "Jana Sanskriti", the country's largest theatre group having presence in 12 states, the festival would hold 25 different types of plays highlighting the major socio-economic problems of the oppressed during the 13-day extravaganza.
This apart a series of international seminars, workshops and debates on different aspects of theatre would be organised during the event, to be continued till October 29, said Mr Sanjoy Ghosal, the brain behind the whole event, told newsmen here this evening.
A large number of noted theatre personalities would take part in these events.
He said about 80 theatre personalities from France, Germany, the UK, the USA, Brazil, Sweden, Austria, Palestine, Pakistan and Australia among several other countries besides those from all the 12 states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan, were participating in the festival.
Mr Ghosal said though the burning social issues were ususually being projected in their plays, spectators were also asked to participate in a large number and join the nationwide movement in favour of the oppressed.
Regarding their international exposure since "Jana Sanskriti" is frequently been invited to various countries, Mr Ghosal claimed that even in the developed countries like France and Germany they received overwhelming response in every visit.
