JK Skiers seek postponement of elections to sports body

Srinagar, Oct 13 (UNI) Leading skiers of the Valley have urged the authorities to defer the elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Winter Games Association, scheduled to be held tomorrow, as the body lacked representative character.

The skiers, under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Winter Sports Association, have appealed to the State Sports Council Secretary to defer the elections to the executive committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Winter Games Association.

In a statement, the skiers said the association's constitution was disputed as only few people represent the sports body.

''There are a number of skiers who have brought laurels not only for the state but the country as well. They have not been given representation in the Association. The issue had been brought to the notice of the Sports Council on several occasions, but in vain. The trend is neither good for the sport nor the sportsmen,'' they said.

The skiers urged the authorities to defer the elections till the people connected with skiing activities were given representations in the Association for development of the sport in Jammu and Kashmir.
