HC orders notices to DMK, SEC, DGP in poll violence petition
Chennai, Oct 13 (UNI) Madras High Court today ordered notice, returnable on October 16, to the State Election Commissioner, DMK Party and three others, on a petition, seeking to declare the election conducted in 155 wards of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation, as null and void.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Mukhopadya and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifullah, also ordered notice, to Director General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police, besides State Election Commissioner and DMK, on a petition filed by AIADMK MLA D Jayakumar.
The Bench also directed the Registry to keep the ballot papers in a sealed cover.
In his petition, Jayakumar also sought to restrain the State Election Commissioner from proceeding with the counting on October 18 with respect to the election conducted in 155 wards of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation.
