Dengue toll at 92, total cases at 4737

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) Dengue claimed 92 lives so far while a total of 4737 cases have been reported from across the country even as the situation turned more grave in some states.

In Delhi the death toll due to dengue rose to 24 with two more people succumbing to the disease in AIIMS while the national toll rose to 92 from 84 yesterday.

The total number of cases in Delhi and its neighbourhood have increased from 1186 to 1276. Maharashtra has also witnessed 22 dengue deaths this year while dengue cases have increased in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi since yesterday, health ministry sources said here today.

Of the 1278 cases reported from Delhi, NCR and other States, 843 cases have been reported from the national capital while 435 cases are from the NCR and other states. Among these 435 cases from outside Delhi, 140 cases are from Haryana, 221 cases from Uttar Pradesh, 12 cases from Rajasthan and 62 from others.

Apart from Delhi, the maximum number of dengue cases have been reported from Kerala (794), followed by Rajasthan (456), Gujarat (441), , West Bengal (405), Uttar Pradesh (349) Tamil Nadu (307), Punjab (250), Maharashtra (240), Haryana (100), Karnataka (90) and Andhra Pradesh (27).

In West Bengal the number of cases have gone from yesterday's 314 to 405 today, UP from 282 to 349, Tamil Nadu 306 to 307, Punjab from 201 to 250, Karnataka from 60 to 90 and Gujarat from 424 to 441.

Among the number of deaths, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan witnessed two more dengue deaths during the past 24 hour taking the total number of deaths to 24 and ten each in the three states respectively.

In Andhra Pradesh the number of deaths have gone up from five to eight, Karanataka from four to seven, Kerala four, Punjab, Maharashtra and West Bengal three each, Haryana two each and Tamil Nadu one.

Meanwhile, Chikungunya of which 1.34 million suspected cases have been found in the country has shown a declining trend in all the states. About 14006 samples of have been tested for Chikungunya of which 1610 have been found positive. In Delhi, 173 people were tested for suspected chikungunya of which 24 were confirmed which is three more than yesterday.

Apart from Delhi, the maximum number of confirmed Chikungunya cases have been reported from Maharashtra (679), followed by Karnataka (294), Andhra Pradesh (248), Gujarat (145), Tamil Nadu (111), Madhya Pradesh (62) Kerala (38) and Puducherry (9).

The Health Ministry reiterated that there has been no deaths due to Chikungunya anywhere in the country. About the report of the experts team of WHO, NICD, NIV which visited the state to do verbal autoposy of suspected Chikungunya deaths, they said that the members have submitted their report to concerned departments but the ministry was yet to receive the report.
