Collector recommends repoll in a village Panchayat

Tiruvallur, Oct 13 (UNI) Collector of Tiruivallur Mr Ran Veer Prasad today recommended to the State Election Commission to order repoll in Pandur Village panchayat in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.

Mr Prasad told UNI that the repoll was recommended as the authorities found that one of the candidate's name was found missing in the ballot paper of the ward number one. This was pointed out by the candidate Mr Ravichandran. At the time of Ravichandran's protest, about 80 votes had been polled for that ward, he added.

He said except one or two small incidents, polling was by and large peaceful in Tiruvallur district, and about 60 per cent polling was registered.

He said in an incident, an unruly mob forcibly entered a polling booth at Padmapuram village Pachayat and snatched away ballot box, broke it open and damaged the ballot papers by pouring ink on them.

He said efforts were on to bring to book the culprits.

In a similar incident, repolling was ordered at a polling booth at Kodur in Kancheepuram district, when a mob of 200 snatched a ballot box containing 163 polled votes and threw it into an Irrigation well nearby.

Kancheepurram District collector Pradeep Yadhav told UNI that police has been asked to book the culprits.

He said 68.3 percent polling was registered in Kancheepuram district.
