Army Base Workshop develops driving simulators
Bangalore, Oct 13 (UNI) The city-based Army Base Workshop has successfully come out with driving simulators and small arms simulator, meant for defence forces, to have a feel of driving a vehicle and firing a missile without actually owning one.
Behind these diversification efforts were the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers of the Indian army, which was celebrating its 63rd Corps Day on October 15. EME was responsible for the Engineering Support Management of complete range of repairs of Army equipment, according to a defence release here today.
The simulators were being developed by the Simulator development division at Secunderabad and production would be taken up by 515 Army Base Workshop here, the release said.
The 515 Army Base Workshop had also successfully produced the Small Arms Range Trainer Simulator 'Drona' and installed it in various Naval, Air Force, Army and paramilitary establishments across the country. It was designed to sharpen the firing skills of the soldiers, the release said.
Recently, the 515 Army Base workshop had successfully completed the production of the TATA 2.5 ton simulator, Maruti Gypsy Driving Simulator, Mahindra and Mahindra Jeep Driving Simulator, Anti-tank Grenade Missile Simulator, L-70 Layer Trainer and Tungushka. The technology transfer of the Kolos Tatras-815, Ashok Leyland vehicle and Gun BMP II simulator had been taken up, the release added.
