Air Deccan moots States to have low cost airports

Bangalore, Oct 13 (UNI) Establishing a successful business model for low cost airliners, Air Deccan today announced that it had mooted with the states and the Airports Authority of India to go in for low cost airports.

Air Deccan Managing Director G R Gopinath told newsmen that he was already in talks with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter Rajasekhara Reddy to take up low cost airports, costing Rs.16 crores each.

Providing minimal comforts and ensuring higher capacities, these airports would have state of the art navigational gadgets to ensure safe landings and take offs, Capt Gopinath said. AP government would soon decide on building such airports in Khammam, Nellore and Adilabad areas, he added.

He had also taken up the issue with the Airport Authority of India and GMR Group which had taken up airport construction also.

He said talks were also on with Karnataka Government for buidling such airports in Hassan, Shimoga, Karwar, Bijapur and Bidar.

Air Deccan has come out witha blue print for such airports which would have easy access to tarmac for passengers. Similarly other major airports should also have separate terminals for low cost airliners, he added.

With an investment of Rs.200 crore 10 to 15 such airports could be built, he added.
