Nagpur, Oct 13 (UNI) Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation here which is dedicated to farmers' cause, has claimed that eleven farmers have committed suicide in Vidarbha during the last three days.

The organisation, in a press release here today, claimed that two farmers each from Yavatmal, Washim, Akola and Amravati districts in the Vidarbha region and one farmer each from Wardha, Buldhana and Chandrapur districts, have committed suicide during the past three days.

The total number of suicides by farmers in the Vidarbha region during this month has risen to 42, the VJAS press release claimed while adding that the number of suicides since June 2005 in the region has reached 975.

Meanwhile, VJAS activists staged an agitation at Patanbori in Yavatmal district of Vidarbha to press for their demand of providing fresh loans to farmers. The activists washed the feet of the branch manager of a nationalised bank in the town and performed his 'pooja' as part of their ''Kisanbhai Lage Raho'' agitation.
