2 militants killed, army camp attacked
Srinagar, Oct 12: Two militants were killed by the security forces while an army camp was attacked and a political party worker was injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.
A defence spokesman said a patrol was attacked by militants at Chokbal in the frontier district of Kupwara. The security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gunbattle one militant was killed.
One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
Official sources said security forces, on a tip-off cordoned off village Arwani in south Kashmir district of Anantnag early today.
However, when the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps.
The operation was going on when the reports last came in, they said.
They said militants attacked an army camp at Doda in Jammu region late last night. Troops also retaliated and the fierce encounter continued for about an hour. However, militants managed to escape, they said adding there was no report of any loss of life or damage to property in the encounter.
Security forces killed a militant in an encounter at a village in Poonch district late last night. The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by militants. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
A Communist Party of India (M) worker Ghulam Rasool was shot at and wounded by militants at Frisal Kulgam in south Kashmir. He was hospitalised.
