TN declares Oct 13 public holiday for civic polls
Chennai, Oct 12: The Tamil Nadu Government has declared a public holiday on October 13 under the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881 in view of the local body elections.
The election is scheduled to be held in two phases -- the first on October 13 and the second phase on October 15, which falls on a Sunday.
All Government offices, including industrial establishments of the Government and government-controlled bodies and educational institutions in Tamil Nadu would remain closed on October 13 and 15, an official release said.
Every person, employed in any business trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote in the election should be granted a holiday on the date of poll. No deduction or abatement of the wages should be made on account of the holiday, it added.
If an employer contravened these stipulations, he would attract punishment under Section 135 B of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the release said.
