Sushant remanded to police custody in connection with cyber crime
Barrackpore, Oct 12 (UNI) A local court today remanded Sushant Chandak to police custody till October 18 in connection with a cyber crime case.
Public Prosecutor Himangshu Bhattacharya pleaded for 14-day police custody to interrogate the accused.
However, defence lawyer Anuj Singh claimed that Sushant was a victim of western conspiracy, on the bases of mere media footage.
Sushant, who was caught in a sting operation by Channel 4 offering to sell a database with credit card details of several people, surrendered to Dumdum police station yesterday.
Earlier the CID had launched a massive operation to nab him but failed despite several raids. Sushant is a resident of Chankyapuri in New Delhi.
The CID finally managed to get a tip off about his whereabouts but Sushant decided to surrender before the cops raided his hideout.
Information about Sushant's involvement in the crime had come from the British police. They immdiately informed Delhi police which alerted the CID in Bengal.
He was arrested under the Information Technology Act. Sushant, during investigation yesterday, revealed the name of Ghufran, a Delhi resident.
