Selected HCS candidates plea for appointment dismissed

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed over a dozen writ petitions filed against the Haryana government's decision to deny appointments to those who were selected by the state Public Service Commission (HPSC) in 2004.

The petitioners, Deepak Dahiya and 14 others, had challenged through separate writ petitions the Haryana government's action in refusing their appointments.

The petitioners had also prayed for quashing the notification of May 13, 2005 vide which the state government had reduced the cadre strength of HCS from 300 to 230, alleging this was solely done to deprive them of their due.

On its part, the Haryana government had apprised the court that these candidates had been declined appointments in view of the fact that the model code of conduct for the general elections to the 90-member Haryana Vidhan Sabha had come into force which squarely prohibited appointments, transfers and postings except where the orders were given by the Election Commission.

The state government had also termed the submissions of the petitioners misplaced that appointments were denied due to the malafide.
