Revenue official transferred in Muafi Land scam

Kapurthala, Oct 12 (UNI) Sadar Kanungo Pawan Kumar, allegedly involved in the Rs ten crore scam in the transfer of the state Governments muafi land in the name of cultivators on Kanjali road here, was transferred to Sultanpur Lodhi.

Noting that there were many beneficiaries of the scam, Deputy Commissioner Raminder Singh said the administration had decided to review all the mutations, stopped the construction work at the site and directed the SDM to conduct a probe.

Punjab Financial Commissioner Revenue K K Bhatnagar, who discussed the case with the DC at Jalandhar yesterday, was expected to discuss with him the preliminary findings of the SDM report in Chandigarh on October 16.

The DC said the muafi land was wrongly transferred in the name of cultivators in 1984 by the then Tehsildar A S Grover and after the change of mutations, the land was sold three to four times.

He said he had entrusted the inquiry to the new SDM Karnail Singh who has recently joined here following the transfer of SDM A K Sikka.

Meanwhile, the coloniser who was developing a residential colony at the muafi land after getting temporary approval from PUDA, removed the sign boards from the site and also erased the name of the colony Green Model Town written on the boundary wall.

District Revenue officer Shashi Kumar Chadda and then Deputy Commissioner Samir Kumar were trading charges against each other for deleting a red note from the revenue record regarding the muafi land in February 2006.

The DRO who had sought the explanation from Sadar Kanungo Pawan Kumar regarding the missing of file pertaining to the orders of then DC Samir Kumar to delete the red entry note from the revenue record, when contacted, said he was yet to receive the reply.
