Power generation in country hits a high of 11.3 per cent

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) The government today said power generation in September, 2006 went up to 54.193 billion units (BU) in the country, a high of 11.3 per cent, compared to the same period last year which was 48.694 billion units (BU) but gas-based stations continued to operate at lower capacity.

During April-September, 2006, the actual generation was 325.182 BU, registering a growth of 6.6 per cent over the actual generation of 304.925 BU in the corresponding period last year registering a growth of 4.7 per cent.

The thermal and hydro generation registered a growth of about 5.5 per cent and 12.6 per cent respectively over the actual generation in corresponding period of last year.

The overall Plant Load Factor (PLF) of thermal power stations during April-September, 2006 touched 73.3 per cent as compared to the actual PLF of 70.5 per cent during the corresponding period last year.

The government said in a statement that supply continued to be a major constraint and gas-based stations being capable of operating at 90 per cent PLF continued to operate at lower capacity due to shortage of gas and the generation loss of about 15.04 BU witnessed during April-September 2006.
