Pondy Lt Gov visits historic monument at Kexhoor village
Puducherry, Oct 12 (UNI) Puducherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi today visited the historic monument at Kezhoor village near here and aquainted himself with the details of the freedom movement of Puducherry during the 1950s.
Mr Mithi saw the pictorial exhibits and familarised himself with the highlights of the referandum signed at the village through which Puducherry became part of the Indian Union on November one 1954.
The Lt Governor was informed by the accompanying officials that of the 178 persons, who voted in the referandum, 170 were in favour of merger of Puducherry and this had led to the signing of the de-facto merger of Puducherry with the Indian Union in 1954.
Mr Mithi also saw the pace of the work by the PWD for the Rs 7.22 crore bridge and a barrage across Guduvaiar river in Sivaranthagam village. The 110-m long bridge would link the village with the Puducherry-Villupuram NH-45 road.
