Number of TB patients decreases in Tripura
Agartala, Oct 12 (UNI) The percentage of TB patients has considerably decreased during last five years in Tripura following various steps taken by the health department against the disease.
An official told UNI here today that the department had predicted about 2,225 TB patients during 2000-2001 rpt 2000-2001 but the number had slashed to 1519 during 2005-06 which is 7.06 per cent less than it was in 2000-2001.
It was previously estimated that every year 40 to 50 people die of TB, the official reports said.
''The state government has requested the Centre to send an expert team to find out the cause behind the decrease,'' said the official.
He said the health department had conducted several awareness campaign about the disease and improved the people's living standard.
