Mizoram launches new telecom system
Aizawl, Oct 12: Mizoram government has launched a new wire-less communication system to connect the entire Northeast region.
The Virtual Private Network (VNP), undertaken by the Tulip IT services, would provide secure access to the Centre and state government offices, educational institutions, panchayats, corporates and private organisations in different locations across the NE.
Tulip IT services in Kolkata would cater to the entire Northeast region, sources said.
Speaking at a function, State Information Minister R Lalthangliana said the new technology of using separate radio frequency would bring down the cost considerably.
With a Rs 20 crore investment, the IT company had set up a network of wireless radio in the entire NE region that would allow users to exchange voice, data and video over VPNs and would be further setting up small radio boxes, the size of laptops, to provide connectivity, Tulip's manager said.
''This will reduce the difficulty in setting up towers in hilly terrains in the Northeast region,'' he added.
