Hurriyat Chairman Geelani again under house arrest in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 12 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was again put under house arrest today, official sources said.
They said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman for the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI that a large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani early this morning.
He said the HC chairman was instructed by a senior police officer to remain indoor today till further orders.
This is the seventh time that Mr Geelani was put under house arrest during the past 45 days.
Mr Akbar said Mr Geelani was scheduled to visit the Chanapora residence of Irshad Ahmad Lone, who was allegedly killed by the Delhi police.
Meanwhile, the body of Irshad reached Chanapora last night from Delhi by road.
Life in the area, including nearby localities remained paralysed for the second day today with all shops and business establishments closed. Traffic on the Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief and other areas in the Badgam district was suspended as a large number of people had gathered at Chanapora protesting against the incident. However, the authorities have diverted the traffic through other routes.
Irshad, a dimploma automobile engineer, had died under mysterious circumstances at Delhi. His body had torture marks and his parents alleged that he was killed by the Delhi police.
