Gibbs questioned, concedes 'offer' was made
New Delhi, Oct 12: Delhi Police today expressed confidence that it was now poised to move the case in the match-fixing scandal forward after questioning South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs for nearly two-and-a-half hours, despite conceding that the batsman did not accept having accepted any frill money.
Jt Commissioner (Crime) Ranjit Narayan, addressing mediapersons, said with today's interrogation they would be able to move the case forward, but denied that Gibbs had given the police any concrete evidence of his involvement in the scandal.
''He was involved in the conspiracy as he accepted that the offer was made to him twice.'' He has given some information where he said that he was merely following the orders of his captain Hansie Cronje, he said.
Denying that anymore questioning of Gibbs would be needed during the present Champions Trophy, the Jt Commissioner said some others may be questioned while adding that his lawyer had given an undertaking that the cricketer would be available whenever needed.
''He was very cooperative during the two-and-a-half hour interrogation at the GO's Mess in Daryaganj.''
