Govt to get custody of monuments
Chandigarh, Oct 12: The Haryana government will be bringing a number of historical monuments and archaeological sites under its custody very soon.
This proposal has been put before the government by the state Archaeology Department, Minister of State for Archaeology, Archives and Museums, Mrs Meena Mandal said here today.
Mrs Mandal said that names of four new historical monuments and archaeological sites were in the process of being included in the list of monuments under state custody. This included the remains of a 5000-year old site of the Harappan city in village Farmana in Rohtak district and a pilgrim site of Mahabharta in village Salwan in Karnal district.
The other two are a 'Bawli' dating back to the times of Mughal rulers in Kaithal and Nahan Kothi in Panchkula.
She said that besides these four, the archaeological survey of Victoria Hall in Karnal, Badshahipul in village Uncha Siwana of Karnal district and ancient sites of village Thana have already been undertaken. She said a decision on the custody of these three would be taken soon.
