Half the world still goes unreported: US expert
Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) Half of the entire world still goes unreported despite the boom in information technology (IT), Internet and new media technologies, a US expert today acknowledged.
Jeff Gralnick, a special consultant with NBC news, felt that this was mainly due to ''money constraints'' even with the big media houses in the West.
Chairing an interaction session on 'Global Media Trends' at the Chandigarh Press Club here, Mr Gralnick said that the website journalism was fast replacing the newspapers in the United States.
He, however, agreed to the arguments that there was a huge disparity as far as the reach of website journalism in the developing world was concerned.
Senior journalist G C Bhardwaj was of the opinion that the social content was missing on the news websites, where the corporate world was dominating with its own agenda.
Sarabjit Pandher of The Hindu raised doubts over the credibility and authenticity of the information available on internet.
A few others were of the opinion that the people in the developing and the under developed countries by and large did not have any access to the new information technologies and they mainly relied on the print media in their respective local languages.
Mr Granlick pointed out that efforts were on in the US to create media software in the languages other than English, which mainly included Spanish and French.
An accomplished media expert with over two decades of experience in broadcast news, Mr Gralnick has written extensively on the internet and its impact on the global news cycle.
