Gorakhpur eves make to the knockout stage of Nehru Hockey
New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Bir Bahadur Singh Sports College, Gorakhpur (UP) pipped St Xavier School, Mapusa (Goa) 1-0 to qualify for the knockout phase of the 13th Nehru Girls Hockey tournament here today.
The all-important goal for the Gorakhpur team was scored by Akriti Choudhary in the 40th minute.
Meanwhile, in the preliminary stage matches, N C C (Punjab) routed M G Vidyalaya Gandhinagar (Gujarat) 6-0 and Govt. Adarsh School, Durg (Chhatisgarh) drew with local Sarvodya School 2-2.
NCC Punjab led 1-0 at half time but pumped in five more in the second session to complete the tally. Nadia Sandhu (2), Nehal Kaur, Shivani Vij, Jaspreet Kaur and Puneet Kaur (one each) were the scorers.
Durg school and Sarvodaya exchanged leads and settled for a 2-2 draw. Durg trailed 0-1 at the breather.
Preeti(6th) and Meenu (58th) scored for Sarvodaya, while Naziya Tarannum (39th) and Heera Sinha(57th) scored for Durg.
