Farmers agitate at bank branch in Yavatmal
Nagpur, Oct 12 (UNI) The activists of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working for farmers rights, today staged an agitation at the branch of a nationalised bank in Patanbori in Yavatmal district.
Taking cue from a popular movie, the agitation was named 'Kisanbhai Lage Raho.' A VJAS release here said the brother of a deceased farmer Ramesh Narayan Burshettiwar, who committed suicide a few weeks ago, washed the feet of the branch manager with water from the Painganga river.
The activists then performed a 'pooja' of the manager and 'worshipped' him.
VJAS said Burshettiwar had tried unsuccessfully to secure a loan from the bank for the past three months and ended his life when his efforts were in vain.
The organisation said it would take the issue to the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission and continue its agitation until those responsible for Burshettiwar's suicide were booked.
