Fake medical bills: Licences of 11 shops cancelled
Visakhapatnam, Oct 12 (UNI) Licences for 11 medical shops in the city have been cancelled for issuing fake bills, an official today said.
District Drugs Inspector and Drugs Control Authority Officer R Udaybhaskar told the media here the shops were issuing bills to employees of some organisations through a broker to enable them claim medical reimbursement.
The decision to cancel the licences was taken after a nine-month long investigation. The shop owners would be prosecuted under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The authorities had taken up the investigation on their own after letters to some of the organisations to empanel medical shops to prevent the misuse of reimubrsement for drugs did not elicit any response.
He also said it would be difficult to decide the amount involved in the issue of fake bills for reimbursement as it had been going on for years.
