Centre for Indian Writers in English planned at RK Narayan's house
Mysore, Oct 12 (UNI) A three-day international seminar to pay tributes to the first modern Indian writer R K Narayan concluded today, with the Mysore University deciding to set up a Centre for Studies on Indian Writers in English at his residence in the city.
The varsity had taken the decision to mark the birth centenary celebrations of the author. It was also proposed that a director and a few faculty members would constitute the personnel at the centre, which would have its own library.
When contacted, varsity Vice-Chancellor J Shashidhar Prasad assured to talk to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to acquire Mr Narayan's house for locating the centre. Family members of the late writer would be approached to seek their cooperation for implementing the project.
The Sahitya Akademi and Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) had organised the seminar on Mr Narayan and his literary works and well known scholars, writers and admirers discussed his works at length.
Many of the participants regretted the ''inaction'' on the part of the city corporation and the district administration in honouring the renowned writer, despite he placing the city on the global literary map.
Many fans, including his close friend and renowned photo journalist T S Satyan, writers and historians had written to Governor T N Chaturvedi in this regard.
