AP Hospital admits 30 patients with fever, officials on alert

Visakhapatnam, Oct 12 (UNI) The King George Hospital (KGH) today admitted 30 persons suffering from fever even as it opened an exclusive outpatient ward to deal with cases of viral and other fevers.

Doctors at the KGH, however, could not confirm if the patients were suffering from dengue.

Meanwhile, District Medical and Health Officer P Jaganadha Rao extensively toured the tribal agency areas to take stock of the situation.

Medical and Health officials also intensified mosquito-control operations throughout the district, particularly in agency areas which were highly vulnerable to the disease.

While viral fevers were rampant in the old city, Jalaripeta, Chilakapeta and Port Area, the neighbouring districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam also reported few cases.

Meanwhile, the Medical and Health Department has intensified the publicity campaign on fever, mainly in slum areas in the city.

It also opened a 24-hour control room in the office of District Medical and Health Officer to keep track of the situation and rush emergency medical assistance to the needy.

A report from Vizanagaram district said some residents of Patbobbili, Gummalakshmipuram and Jiuuammavalasa Mandals were suffering from fever accompanied by dehydration.

Most of them were admitted to private corporate hospitals and other nursing homes.
