Villagers damage police jeep, other vehicles

Puducherry, Oct 11 (UNI) Tension prevailed here at Thavalakuppam, with villagers smashing the windscreen of a police jeep and other vehicles following the death of a boy in an accident here tonight.

According to police, one Silambarasan (19) of Pudukuppam was killed on-the-spot afer the motor cycle, he was riding collided with a van infront of the Thavalakuppam police station.

Following the accident, the villagers, who assembled at the spot, alleged that though the accident occurred infront of the police station none of the police personnel rushed to help the boy.

Citing inaction of the police, the villagers resorted to vandalism and smashed windscreen of a police jeep and other vehicles plying through the route.

On information, Senior Police officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the villagers and advised them to disperse.

Later, the traffic, which was suspended due to the incident was restored, police added.
