Udupi to spend Rs one cr for repairing roads

Udupi, Oct 11 (UNI) The Udupi district administration will spend Rs one crore from the natural calamity fund for repairing a 30-km stretch of most damaged roads on the National Highway from Udupi to Mulky, Medical Education and district incharge Minister Dr V S Acharya said today.

Addressing newspersons after chairing a KDP meeting here, he said the repair works would commence from tomorrow. In the 30 km stretch, four km was most critical and a total of Rs 1.25 crore was required.

He had also asked the local body authorities to immediately take up repair works of other roads in the district, he added.

Dr Acharya said the weigh bridge at Shiroor, re-installed by the Mine Owners Forum, would start functioning in another two days. It had been taken possession of by the district administration for weighing manganese ore lorries passing through the district.

He said the much delayed work on the bridge at Barkur was nearing completion and would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on November 26.
