Sawai Madhopur shutdown turns violent, policemen injured
Kota, Oct 11 (UNI) Several policemen sustained injuries when a agitated crowd pelted stones at them today during a bandh over a custodial death in Sawai Madhopur.
The police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
Hansraj Meena, 18, of Bassi Kala village in Sawai Madhopur district was arrested on charges of theft and was lodged in Mantown police station where he died a few days ago. The enraged Meena community, called a Sawai Madhopur shutdown today.
The bandh supporters demanded the guilty policemen, who are responsible for Hansraj's death, be arrested and also that Rs five lakh compensation be given to his family.
Eyewitnesses say around 300 youths took out a procession in Sawai Madhopur today which was being followed by police vehicles. When the procession was passing through Bajriya locality around 12 hrs the youths suddenly became agitated and started pelting stones at the police vehicles.
