Rs 30,000 cr to be invested in power sector in K'taka
Bangalore, Oct 11 (UNI) With a view to invest Rs 30,000 crore in the power sector in the next five years, the Karnataka Government has asked the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and five distribution companies to prepare project reports, Energy Minister H D Revanna said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said KPCL would invest Rs 15,000 crore for generation of 4,000 MW of power in the next five years.
Both thermal and hydel power stations would be set up in eight different places for the purpose.
Another Rs 15,000 crore would be invested by KPTCL and five other distribution companies in the next five years for system improvement to supply quality power, he added.
Regarding the 4,000 MW Tadadi Mega Power project, Mr Revanna said the State Government would convince the local people about the importance of the project for the State and only then implement it.
The Minister, also holding the Public Works Department portfolio, said he had sent a proposal worth Rs 560 crore to the Centre for the development of ports at Karwar, Malpe and Belekere.
