More contracted wheat arrives at Indian ports
New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) The government today informed that against tender of import of wheat for 55 lakh metric tonnes (MT), a quantity of 17.2 lakh MT has touched Indian ports till yesterday (October 10).
Three vessens are currently at discharge at Kandla, Vizag and Mundra ports, having a total quantity of 1,46,971 MT of wheat, out of which 96,619 MT has been discharged by October 8.
Five vessels have arrived with 2,43,603 MT of wheat at Munda, Chennai, Kandla and Vizag ports and are under fumigation, quality-check and berthing.
Twelve vessels that have sailed to Indian ports with 5,61,711 MT of wheat, are scheduled to arrive by October 20, 2006, according to an official release here.
Wheat prices at the retail level have remained steady at Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedbad, Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad during the week ending October 5.
Wheat prices declined at Bhopal while it showed slight increase in Mumbai and Thirvananthapuram.
Wheat futures prices for October, November and December 2006 contracts at Rs 965, Rs 985 and Rs 1,000 per quintal respectively as on October 4 are lower than the spot price at Rs 1001 per quintal.
Future prices for January and February 2007 contracts are higher than the spot prices on the same date, the release added.
