Kerala HC directs Govt. to file affdvt. on health insurance scheme
Kochi, Oct 11 (UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the state government to file an affidavit on a petition challenging its decision to discontinue the general insurance scheme envisaged by the previous government for the people falling below the poverty line.
A division bench consisting of Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman gave the direction while hearing a public interest petition filed by one P B Muraleedharan from Kottayam.
The petitioner also sought a direction to the government to restore and implement the universal health insurance scheme or a similar scheme in the state.
He also sought a direction to the department of public health to form a task force alongwith private hospitals in the state to identify the viruses causing the Chikungunya and other diseases.
According to the petitoner, the state mechinery instead of controlling the diseases on a war footing was taking action in a lethargic manner with scant regard to the life and health of the citizens.
