Srinagar, Oct 11 (UNI) A Jammu and Kashmir government employee, who continued to work in his capacity even after attaining retirement a year back and drew his salary, was traced by the state Vigilance Organisation and Rs 2.9 lakh recovered from him.

A vigilance spokesman today said Mohammad Akbar Khan formally retired as the Deputy Chief Education Officer, Baramulla on July 27 this year.

He was to retire on April 30 last year and as such overstayed in the government service for a period of more than one year.

Khan's action was detected by the Vigilance Organisation. He was asked to deposit an amount of Rs 2.9 lakh in the government treasury which he had withdrawn as salary, the spokesman added.

He said the Vigilance Organisation has launched an inquiry to probe how the accused managed to continue in the government service even after one year of his retirement.
