Haryana govt to spend Rs five crore on ancient monuments
Chandigarh, Oct 11 (UNI) The Haryana Archaeology Department will spend an amount of Rs five crore on conservation, preservation and renovation of ancient monuments in the state.
Minister of State for Archaeology, Archives and Museums Meena Mandal today said that an amount of Rs four crore was being spent through the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the renovation of various ancient monuments.
Similarly, an amount of Rs one crore was being spent on the renovation of ancient Bheema Devi Temple in Pinjore in Panchkula district.
She said that a museum would also be set up in which the remains of the ancient statues of gods and goddesses will be put to display. The building of this museum had already been constructed at Pinjore.
Mrs Mandal informed that an amount of Rs 46 lakh had been spent on the renovation of the Budh Stupas of the Mauryan and Shung-Kushan dynasty in Chineti village of Yamunanagar district.
The renovation of Jahazkothi in Hisar had already been started with the help of the Union Government An expenditure of Rs 45 lakh was expected to be incurred on this work. This building was the residence of one George Thomas during the British rule in the 19th century. After the renovation of this building, a Regional State Archaeological Museum would be set up in the building in which archaeological remains will be put to display.
She said that the renovation work of Chor Gumbad located in Narnaul would soon be initiated. This tomb is one of the ancient monuments of the Tuglaq dynasty of 13th century. The renovation work of this building would incur an expenditure of Rs 51 lakh.
