Haryana govt to set up 3000 mini dairies
Chandigarh, Oct 11 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to set up 3000 mini dairies and open one veterinary hospital in each Gaushala having 2000 cows or above during the current financial year to give a major fillip to milk production in the state.
Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha today said that the government had also forwarded an ambitious scheme of Rs 554 crore to the Central Government for the development of Murrah buffaloes. The Murrah buffaloes giving more milk were also being identified and their calves were being purchased by the government for developing high variety buffaloes of this breed through proper nutrition and scientific maintenance.
The government had also distributed a sum of about Rs 1.26 crore as an incentive to 3123 breeders of Murrah buffaloes during last month.
Mr Chatha said that extensive exercise was being carried out in the state to keep the animals disease free by organizing animal health camps. Besides, cross breeding programmes, efforts were also being taken to mix the Haryana and Sahiwal high quality genre bulls.
Artificial insemination services were also being made available in the state.
He said that per capita milk availability in the state was 660 grams as compared to national average of 223 grams. He said that animal produce protein availability in the country was 10 gram per person whereas the recommendation of World Health Organisation was 25 gram.
Due to the more domestic milk and milk products consumption in the state, the per capita animal produce protein availability was better in the state. He said that the government was also providing loan facility on low interest rates to the persons setting up mini dairies besides providing them a grant of Rs 10,000.
